Toulouse win another in Ligue 1
By: Dave Trotter | October 26th, 2009
After the midweek clash that saw Toulouse travel to the Ukraine and lose 4-0 to FC Shakhtar Donetsk, Toulouse continued their winning ways in Ligue 1 play as they pulled off a 2-0 win against Lens at the hostile environment at Stade Felix Bollaert.
Toulouse seemed to have the better day, as the two teams played an extremely physical game. It was evident that both teams were fighting for their Ligue 1 lives as tackle after tackle look more and more intense.
Coming into this game, both teams have had trouble scoring. Lens, who have been in poor form as of late, had not scored a goal in the last three games. They continued their streak against Toulouse without scoring as well.
Toulouse, on the other hand, finally saw their scoring touch return. Moussa Sissoko, who is the team’s leading scorer, found the net in the 35th minute after a shot hit the crossbar and Sissoko knocked in the rebound. That was Sissoko’s fourth goal of the year.
In addition to Sissoko’s goal, Andre-Pierre Gignac finally found the goal for Toulouse. The French international, who had not scored a goal since Toulouse’s second game of the season against St. Etienne, knocked in another superb goal. Gignac’s goal, which involved him navigating around two Lens defenders in order to create a score on what would usually look like an impossible shot, has seem to become Gignac’s trademark move.
Goaltender Yoann Pele also record a clean sheet. He made four saves to complete his shut out. This is especially a great motivator for Pele, after his poor 4-goal performance on Thursday.
Also, compared to what one would be use to, the crowd at Lens seemed to be smaller than usual? It didn’t seem as loud as one would expect from a average Lens match. Are they losing supporters?
Still, another win for Toulouse sees the team in 11th place as of right now. And next week will see if Toulouse can continue their climb upward. They will take on the struggling Marseille at the Stadium Municipal on Saturday.

Glad to see Gignac finally scored again for his club team. It will be interesting to see how OM react to them after not playing last weekend…

Actually, the only hostility coming from the fans at the Stade Felix Bollaert was against their own players and management. And the answer is yes, Lens is losing support. Until Wallemme is fired or Martel goes the fan support will continue to dwindle.

I heard a few days ago that Martel said that Wallemme is going to stay with the club. Therefore, not much change there.
I was also reading some Lens supporters message boards and they say that it is more the players that Wallemme. Most supporters say that these players are good enough to compete and win Ligue 2, but are far from even being competetive in Ligue 1.
So, it seems like Martel is backing Wallemme and so are the fans. That might spell doom for RC Lens.

The fans are certainly NOT backing Wallemme for the most part. Indeed, they are criticizing the roster and Martel’s responsibility with that but most fans want Wallemme gone and Roger Lemerre seems like the guy who most see as the next coach.

Well, I have read it on some Lens message boards. Of course that doesn’t mean they are Lens supporters
