Starting Lineups for Toulouse vs. Lyon
By: Dave Trotter |
Well, since today is Super Bowl Day (and on the last Ligue 1 Talk Podcast I predicted a Colts victory 35-17, but I am going for the Saints), I will not be able to join any live discussions for this match. Therefore, I wanted to bring the late breaking news before the start of today’s match.
First of all, Colin Kazim-Richards has been praised by Alain Casanova, according to the official Ligue 1 site. As we have mentioned in the past week, his play has been quite good (which I didn’t expect). “I think Kazim was one of the few satisfactions in the first half against Marseille in midweek,” said Casanova.

Getting ready for the big matchup between Toulouse and Lyon, OL manager Claude Puel knows that his team has to be prepared to play against a Toulouse side that will be looking to avenge their mid-week exit from the League Cup to Marseille.
“They are a team with quality and we know it,” he said, according to www.olweb.fr.

Toulouse vs. Lyon Preview
By: Dave Trotter |
After a heartbreaking loss to Marseille earlier this week in the semifinals of the League Cup, Toulouse looks to concentrate more on their Ligue 1 season as they will host Lyon at the Stadium Municipal Sunday evening.
While they were the losing side in the Cup match, Toulouse had the better play throughout the 90 minutes. So, even though they have been knocked out, they have a lot to look forward to. And this past lost to Marseille is Le Tef’s first loss of 2010.

League Cup Preview: Toulouse vs. Marseille
By: Dave Trotter |
Toulouse look to make it to their first ever League Cup final today as they host the mighty Olympique Marseille at the Stadium Municipal tomorrow. Le Tef has had an up and down season, plagued with injuries as well. But after finishing off the year on a horrible note, which included a loss to last place Grenoble, 2010 has been a different story for the men in purple.

Leauge Cup Preview: Guingamp vs. Toulouse
By: Dave Trotter |
While Toulouse’s season has been filled with mixed results so far, their run in the cup matches (excluding Europa Cup, that is) has been impressive. In the League Cup, Le Tef has made it to the quarter-finals and will be playing the easiest competition, last year’s cup winners Guingamp.
Last year, Guingamp surprised the French football world by defeating Rennes in the French Cup final to become the first non-top tier league team to win that cup since 1959. On their way to their historic victory, Guingamp knocked Toulouse off in the quarter-finals.
There is no doubt that Toulouse will be looking for revenge against the Ligue 2 side that seems to always bring their best game to cup competitions. Toulouse midfielder Mathieu Berson said that the loss to Guingamp last year was a “big black spot” on what was otherwise a positive season.

Olivier Sadran: Gignac is staying, abolish the League Cup
By: Dave Trotter |
Toulouse chairman Olivier Sadran said today that there haven’t been any ‘good’ offers for Andre-Pierre Gignac during the current winter transfer window. According to French media, a number of clubs, including Arsenal, have approached Toulouse in regards to signing the French international striker.
Gignac has signed a contract extension with Toulouse until 2013. But if the team gets an offer they can’t refuse, Sadran somewhat indicated that he would listen. “If we receive an offer and all parties are in agreement, we will advise,” said Sadran according to L’Equipe. In addition, Sadran feels that the current economic situation (in football worldwide I assume) continues to be poor, that the summer transfer window will be quiet.

TFC News: Kazim Kazim to Toulouse
By: Dave Trotter |
Some call him the Christiano Ronaldo of Fernebache. Some of the videos I have seem, though, show a less than impressive player. Still, Toulouse looked to strengthen up their midfield by receiving English-born Turkish international Colin Kazim-Richards, also known as Kazim Kazim, on a loan deal for the rest of the season.
Kazim started his football career in England with Bury, then moving to Brighton and Sheffield United before finding his place in Turkey, which is his mother’s native land.
Still, even with him being called a Turkish Christiano Ronaldo, the stats and videos show quite a different story. The so-called “attacking midfielder” has only scored 15 goals in six years, whereas Christiano Ronaldo scored, what, six times as many goals in that time span, and against tougher opponents as well?

Gignac to Arsenal?
By: Dave Trotter |
In the last few weeks, we have heard of a number of Ligue 1 players that EPL side Arsenal have been interested in. First we heard of Bordeaux striker Marouane Chamakh. Then Nice striker Loic Remy. Then we heard of up-and-coming Lille attacking midfielder Eden Hazard.
Now, in the last few days and with the transfer window approaching in the next few hours, Toulouse striker Andre-Pierre Gignac is being mentioned as the next possible Ligue 1 exile to London.
While working with Arsene Wenger would be beneficial, and playing on a high-profile team would help his standing internationally, Gignac has said a few time that he intends on staying in Toulouse for the next few years. In the summer, Gignac was sought by Lyon, but decided to sign a contract extension with Toulouse instead until the year 2013.
If Gignac is acquired by Arsenal, he will add to the striking power that Arsenal needs, especially since injury to superstar Robin Van Persie.
The club has yet to make any public statements on any offers for Gignac, and have remained quite on the Arsenal question. Rumors have it that a move for Gignac to Arsenal could net Le Tef 13 million Euros. The club was also not able to be reached for comment yesterday.
Has Toulouse FC lost it?
By: Dave Trotter |
A few weeks ago, it looked like Toulouse might be back on track. Le Tef had a draw against Marseille and then a few more wins (though mixed in with a few more losses). Goaltender Yoann Pele returned to the line up after a red card suspension. And Olivier Blondel did a great job in goal during Pele’s absence.
But since Pele’s return, Pele and Blondel suffered injuries that will see the out for the season. The club has had to rely on Boulogne backup Matthieu Valverde to shoulder the load for the rest of the season. Their second backup, Marc Vidal, isn’t at 100%, and the third keeper, 17-year old Anthony Loustallot, got his clean sheet the other day against a banged up Sochaux that didn’t threatend much offensively.
And that is just their goaltending woes.
